 Punkbuster bans for latest update
A new update for the PC version of Battlefield 3 has rolled out and it comes with an awful ‘Corrupted File/Memory [9808096]‘ issue that was introduced some months ago. Since this morning, a lot of PC gamers have been kicked/banned from the public servers due to that issue, while others had to manually update Punkbuster in order to play the game.
As you may have guessed, DICE is already looking into fixing it .According to the developers, they are ‘aware of the issues caused by “Corrupted File/Memory [9808096]” and are working on it’. Expect a minor patch-fix and a new announcement from the studio during the day.
The team has also suggested to all PC gamers to try and play on servers without Punkbuster enabled until this concern is investigated. As the team tweeted via their game’s account:
“We are aware of the issues caused by “Corrupted File/Memory [9808096]” and are working on it. More announcements during the day.”
The PC patch that got released this morning is supposed to support Intel’s new Ivy Bridge product line (as yet unreleased), fix two reproducible client crashes, as well as offer performance improvements to AMD’s Radeon 7xxx series.
There is no official ETA yet for when this issue will get fixed, so stay tuned for more updates about it!
Please be aware, Punkbuster bans can only be lifted again by Evenbalance, which can become a long way.
Update 15.02.
The issue seem to be fixed. A manual update of the Punkbuster Client was needed also.
We had no kicks or bans due Punkbuster.

The cheat detection software Punkbuster supports by default all Battelfield 3 Servers, also the Old Helmetz Server.
Unfortunately the fight against cheater and hackers is a game of cat-and-mouse. Thus both OH Server stream to
PBBans and GGC.
Next to the scans of Punkbuster, it offers us making so called Punkbuster Screenshots automatically to check players. The amount of screenshots can be more than a thousand within hours, depending to the frequency our servers are visited. It is almost impossible to check this number of screenshots daily.
Since today the service pbscreens.com supports us. Each players` screenshots made on Old Helmetz 1 (vehicle) and Old Helmetz 2 (Inf. Only) can now be checked public by everyone. Furthermore those screenshots are scanned by pbscreens.com automatically for colour and pattern irregularities.
Successful catches will then be send to PBBans and GGC to obtain a global ban on all streaming servers for that player.
Of course not only our servers are supported by pbscreens.com, daily new ones will be connected. For checking players screenshots on several connected servers you can use the global search mask on pbscreens.com. Everyone can easy search players by name or pb_guid and see all punkbuster screenshots
For sure this is not a 100% security, but another big step into the right direction for providing a clean and fair gameplay on our server. Many thanks to the operators of pbscreens.com

 3 months gone - 6 months to go
The Old Helmetz Server invoice got paid at last minute.
Thanx to the contributors Lucabazooka, SeargentKampann, -0wenmeany-, Yipikajee, England and Nephris the servers will keep running for another period of 6 months. As in the past 3 months the servers will run Infantry Only on the 16 slot server and vehicle maps on the 24 slot server. Both servers run mixed maps of default Battlefield 3 and maps of the "Back to Karkand" DLC.
Rules
Both servers need several basic rules to provide fair gameplay.
No using of cheats or hax is the most important of all rules.
We don´t accept repeating insults and bad language or whiners that heat the mood on the server. Everyone knows insults made in the heat of the battle, repeating insults will be rewarded with a kick, to cool down the player, but that doesent mean this player isnt welcome anymore.
The last taken flag, is the flag to defend (except defender flags in assault mode). Give the enemy the chance to get into game again to keep the server running, getting killed after a spawn in mainbase is more than annoying.
We allow each weapon on our servers.
Administration
Every paying member has full admin rights!
Players that are interested to help us administrating can get limited admin rights (kick, change level, temp ban).
To a basic degree both servers are administrated via the tool Procon and individual plugins.
Bans
We try to fight hackers by streaming to GGC and PBBANS. But we also know that not all fishes get caught by this net, so we reserve the right as paying administrators to kick or ban players that are suspicious or spoil the gameplay fun for others. Maybe this sounds arbitrary, but be sure our banlist is not very large ,which means below 10.
Of course we always have an ear for every banned player that is looking for a word with us in our forums.
Bans deployed by GGC or PBBANS can not be lifted by us!

 Server Invoice
Almost 3 months are gone and the first server period will be over at the end on january.
If the Old Helmetz Server shall keep running it needs to be paid again.
We received the invoice by our server provider which needs to paid at 28th january 2012 at last.
All players and members who want to support the server list into the the BF3 Server Period Thread please.

 Old Helmetz back at Karkand
The latest DLC for Battlefield 3 also reached the Old Helmetz Server.
As old Battlefield Veterans the new maps are not completely unknown.
The DLC is available withouth any extra charge to Limited Version owners
of Battlefield 3, in shops is costs around 15€.
The DLC contains classic Battlefield 2 maps like Strike at Karkand, Sharqi Peninsula,
Gulf of Oman and Wake Island.
Old Helmetz Server II - 16 slot will run the new maps in infantry only mode.
The new maps are added to the default map rotation.
That means the server isn´t a "Back to Karkand" Server only, but runs default maps like
Seine Crossing, Grand Bazar, Theran Highway or Operation Metro also to keep a mix of all great
Battlefield 3 infantry combat maps.
Old Helmetz Server I - 24 slot will change the maps and infantry or vehicle mode unregulary.
Unfortunately that means as soon as maps of the DLC are loaded, players that didnt pruchased the DLC
will be kicked automatically. This is not the finest way, but the only compromise to live up with all players.
Next to new maps & vehicles several new sssignments are being implemented and in our forum or under Read More you will find the full list and details in how you can unlock all ten Back to Karkand weapons.

Teamspeak 3 Server IP has changed
Due several hardware problems the Old Helmetz Teamspeak 3 Server switched to an alternative adress.
Please change the adress in your TS3 client.
All users who have access can check the new TS3 adress in the member section of our forums.
Each member that already subscribed to the mail notification got the TS3 details already by mail.
Of course all guests are welcome and are invited to join our TS.
Leave a PM,an entry in the guestbook or simply type to any [OH] Member ingame on one of our Server.

Battlefield 3 Patch R11 & Back to Karkand |

Battlefield 3 Patch R11 announced
On tuesday the 6th december all Battlefield 3 Server will be down as the lately announced big patch R10 will be uploaded to servers. The patch is about 2 GB and will also be available to all clients via origin.
The patch adresses to a lot of issues like connection crashes and game balancing.
The tactical light was decreased aswell the inrv optics.
Also, it will once again be possible to reduce the number of players required to start a round to 1 both in ranked and unranked mode.
Back to Karkand Release announced
This patch also contains the maps & files for the new DLC Back to Karkand. This content will be unlocked on 13th december.
If you are a Battlefield 3 Limited Edition owner, you are entitled to this entire expansion pack at no extra charge
With the new DLC more trophies ,weapons and new vehicles will also be added to the game.
At least one Old Helmetz Server will be switched on "Back to Karkand" DLC.

Battlefield Patch R9 - Improvement or Failure
The latest patch release lasts 2 days. We hoped the patch decreased the crashes and improved connection attempts. Ashame we had to notice the opposite. Still some users expierience crashes while gaming on certain pc configuration, they even noticed more crashes than on patch R8.
Furthermore, a bug that seemed to be introduced in patch R8 is still present.
The bug appears after a server map needs to be restarted or stopped when the minimum player count is undercut and results in the looped Battlelog message "server is changing map, retrying in 10 sec..." . A server restart is the last solution only.
At least the squad management got improved and players can choose their desired squad ,up to a certain limit.
The issue on Old Helmetz #2 - Infantry Only - 16 slot Server got resolved and is running fine again.
Both servers run on latest Patch R9 version.

Connection Issues on Battlefield 3 Servers
We have been informed that some players expierience problems in connecting to Old Helmetz Server.
While trying to join, players, that left before a server ,get stuck in a loop with a battlelog message like "server is trying to load map..wait 10 sec..." ,their gaming executable simply crashes or the game stops loading in a black loading screen or loading a new map ends in a loop.
According to the latest findings this problems were introduced in the latest
Battlefield 3 Patch R8 and concerns each server on latest patch.
As long as no fix, in form of an upcoming Battlefield 3 Patch R9, will be released by DICE/EA players will have to live with that unregular occuring issue and accept force reconnections on servers.
Up to now no date has been announced for an upcoming patch, but "Back to Karkand" was announced for December, which maybe could come with a patch.
Several patch details have already been leaked, like reduced effects on tactical lights, changes to jet handling, changes to several weapons, aswell complete new weapons in the DLC "Back to Karkand"

Old Helmetz Battlefield 3 Server
The 24 slot server, called Old Helmetz I kepps running "Vehicle maps".
The maps are adapted to the player count, which means big maps with 5-6 flags will be loaded in Conquest Mode.
The 16 slot server, called Old Helmetz II keeps loading Infantry Only maps, but is loaded with different sized maps.
The gaming modes "Rush" and "Conquest" will be mixed on the maps, although "Conquest" has priority.
Old Helmetz #1 - Vehicle Maps 24 slots
Old Helmetz #2 - Infantry Only 16 slots
Old Helmetz Server run the ProCon plugins Chat Filter and the True Balancer.
The Chat Filter will send infraction for insults and will kick for three infraction.
True Balancer is an addition to Battlefield 3 auto-balance, this plugin switches the latest joined player to keep the sides leveled
These plugins are still in beta status, so plz report any bugs and leave feedback

Old Helmetz Servers are online since almost 14 days and we can already open the Hall of Shame for dishonorbly
"players" for caught Cheater & Hacker. Each catch will be posted public and added to our new section
The Old Helmetz Server stream to PBbans & GGC that impose or repeal life bans only on all worldwide streaming servers.
We follow a zero tolerance attitude towards cheater and hacker!
The first participants of our Hall of Shame got banned for using a Gamehack
